Entered: 16 teams
4 groups of 4
Top 2 go into QF, SF then Final
Carpeteers began the day as 50/1 rank outsiders for this competition but came into it on the back of some really good form at the Cornwall 6 a side league so believed they had a chance. There were clearly a good 10 teams of the 16 better on paper but Carps dominated their group with 3 wins, 2-0, 1-0 and 2-0 to top the group.
A 1-0 Qf win over fellow Cornwall 6 a side league team Tornadoes followed and the semi final was against a strong St Austell A side who would surely have been huge odds on to see us off. We took the lead and nearly held it but for conceding a couple of minutes from time to set up a penalty shoot out.
3 misses from them and 3 /3 goals for us from Carl Webster, Chris Warburton and Scott Laughton saw Carps romping to their first final.
Their opposition in the final included many top class, serious local players who had breezed through and again Carps had to be 7/1 outsiders to win this one , possibly even bigger odds.
The team united and battled for every ball and in the final seconds of extra time with the score at 0-0 [ 7 seconds remaining to be exact ] Scott Laughton whipped in a fast corner which deflected in for an incredible Carpeteers match and tournament victory that nobody expected.
The team on the day was,
GK: Gavin Kitts
DEFENCE: Chris Warburton and Ricko Barker
MIDFIELD: Andy Geach, Scott Laughton, Carl Webster
ATTACK: Gareth Geach
F: 8
A:1
W:6
D:0
L:0
Scott Laughton wins the golden boot for his 6 goals.
Well done Carps.....a fantastic victory...a real team effort that shows, anyone can win if they play as a team and believes in themselves.
